OUR STORY
BodeTree was founded in 2010 by Chris Myers and Matt Ankrum. As colleagues at a Fortune 500 company, Chris and Matt witnessed firsthand the gap in the business intelligence available to small businesses versus their larger counterparts. BodeTree was born. The first version of the app launched August of 2011, and has evolved over the years into the comprehensive small business management tool it is today.
THE LEGEND OF THE BODETREE
BodeTree (pronounced: boh-dee tree) is founded on the premise that small business owners deserve the same access to the tools and insights big companies enjoy.
Our company name is inspired by the Buddhist legend of the Bodhi Tree, where Buddha reaches the highest state of enlightenment – nirvana – through dedicated meditation.
While our approach is far from meditating on your numbers, we do strive to help entrepreneurs make sense of their finances. It’s not about massive spreadsheets telling you what to do, but gaining a true understanding of your business and what it takes to succeed. Our goal is to empower a new generation of enlightened small business entrepreneurs.

Chris Myers
CEO & Co-Founder
Chris is passionate about small business and has extensive experience in strategy development, financial analysis, and valuation. Prior to founding BodeTree, he played a key role on the strategy team of a Fortune 500 company, providing valuation and financial opinions as a consultant. Chris graduated from Arizona State University with an undergraduate degree in finance and studied accounting and economics at Babeş-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. Since launching BodeTree, Chris has been widely featured as a small business expert in top tier business publications.
Matt Ankrum
Chairman & Co-Founder
Matt has extensive experience in strategy development, business analysis, and investment management. Prior to BodeTree, he served the head of strategy for Apollo Group, Inc. and was a portfolio manager and analyst for Janus Capital Group, Lateef Investment Management, William Blair & Company, and Conseco Capital Management. Matt is a CFA charterholder and member of the CFA Institute. He holds an undergraduate degree in finance from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and an MBA in economics, finance and accounting from the University of Chicago.
